Happy New Year :)

So a new year is upon so and over the Christmas Break I have being doing a little redesigning on The Girl and the Whale, after taking time off for turkey and chocolate of course. 

So here is a new concept for the Island in both a line and colour form. It was drawn with a new programme I am trying out call Zeus Draw. It is a great vector drawing programme which was used for the line version then coloured in Art Rage with a little colour tweaking in Photoshop.

Miss Remarkable Continues

So we are continuing on with the animation of Miss Remarkable and everything is going great. We have a few finished scenes so I wanted to post some stills to illustrate the style. The film is completely black and white and the scenes are based on Joanna's graphic novel of the same name. And all this is with the participation of Bórd Scannán na hÉireann/The Irish Film Board. Our thanks to Emma and Andrew.  :)

A New Little Project

So the recent Junior Film Fleadh has just finished here in Galway, the last film was shown on Saturday 15th Nov. But not only were there films shown at the festival but before each film there was shown the promo animation produced by ourselves. It was a piece we created in Apple's Motion and told the story of the magic of cinema coming from the projector to the screen.

Recent Pitch

Ok so while we are waiting for the machine with the photos of Miss Remarkable to come back from the Mac Doctor here is an image from a recent music video pitch. The video tells the story of the world waking up.

A New Project

So despite my best efforts and good will to publish more often I have fallen into my old habits of irregular posting, so in an effort to get back on track here is a new concept from a short film idea we are working on, The Story of the Girl and The Whale. 

The Finished Colour Version - something different post

Ok so I figured I would post the coloured version of the pervious post (Something Different), just finished this up today. A good Sunday spent in work. For those interested, it was coloured in both Flash and Artrage.

Something Different

I thought it might be good to post an image from a different project, other than Wulfie and in an effort to post more often here is an image I have been working on, on and off for the last week or so.  It is the same image but the different versions I have been going through, just finishing the cleanup version there today.

Programmes used for anyone interested in that type of thing are, Rough - Flash (brush), Colour Rough - Art Rage, Cleaned - Flash (pencil) and all drawn with the cintiq.

Libby Outfits

Today I spent a couple of hours sketching different outfits for Libby, so I figured I would post some of these sketches. Including one inspired by the current Euro 2008 tournament, although I don't think Libby would be too happy by her teams current performances.

Wulfie Scene Illustration

I haven't posted artwork in a while, holidays and other stuff getting in the way. But I wanted to post something I have been working on today, it's a scene illustration for Wulfie, it's not completely finished, still working on the background but I'll posted the finished one along with this when its complete.

Andy & Derek Style

We've been working alot on the style of Andy & Derek and here is one of style concepts we have been working on. We really wanted to go for a limited palette and at one stage even had just black & white designs but we are really happy with this look.

A Quick Update to Yesterday's Post

Wulfie Backgrounds

Here are some Background Images for the Wulfie Trailer.

The image of Libby's Room took a while to get this far and I'm still thinking of changing it a little, such as the window.

We wanted to keep an illustration look to the backgrounds, leaving white space in some images.

They were made with Art Rage which is a paint based colouring programme and allows for the use of stencils (used for the cobwebs in Libby's room). Click the images to see a larger version.

One issue with Art Rage though is not being able to adjust the colour after the fact, so I have been exporting to psd to adjust the colour and saturation in Photoshop.

The Andy & Derek Show

It's been a good couple of weeks, so for a little celebration, we're all off for some Friday drinks. But before we go here's a quick promo image from a show we're developing at the moment. It's gone through a few name changes but I think this one might just stay for now. We'll have more images up very soon of the main characters of Andy & Derek. Also, Goodbye & Au revoir to Tom Caulfield who is off to Paris for the next while ... Paris is in France for those who don't know ..... Anyway hope you have a great time and we'll see you soon TC. 

Wulfie Creator / Writer

Just a post to mention the Wulfie creator and writer Lindsay J. Sedgwick. Lindsay and her daughter Libby created the character explain the missing single socks, a sure sign Wulfie is about, as he is partial to the odd smelly sock.

And some background straight from the author's mouth.

“Wulfie was born over a number of years out of stories ad-libbed for my daughter, now 8. Of all the characters I have developed for her in this way, Wulfie is the one who has remained part of our lives. We have shared him with every other child we know – my daughter’s version and
my own – and now we want to share him with a wider audience. With every child who has ever wanted to have a Wulfie of their own.”

A Couple of Posters

Over the last week or so between myself and Tom we designed up and coloured a couple of posters for Wulfie. Wulfie can transform between small and big so we based one of the posters as our take on the Stars Wars Episode 1 poster of Anakin.

Below are some images from the Wulfie series we have in-development. Tom C has done a great job working from Aurelie's concept sketches. Talented young people the lot of them. And for anyone interested all the sketches were drawn directly into the computer, but Tom still misses the paper :(

Wulfie Starts

We are currently working on a tv series development called "Wulfie" and what happens when a young girl finds she shares her room with a big bad wolf.

Libby’s parents are mean. So mean that every time she annoys them – even accidentally – they threaten her with the Big Bad Wolf.  She never could figure out why he only ate naughty little girls when Libby had a perfectly horrid brother to whom he was welcome. One day, fed up with yet another of her parents’ threats and left alone in the house, Libby set out to find and confront the Big Bad Wolf. She would persuade him to at least eat her nasty brother before he ate her and, ideally, her parents.
