A brief glimpse into my sketchbook for an idea that unfortunately might not get very far. Ahh well.

A look back at the Nights Out & Days In with the Ish Team.

Now that we’ve finished work on our latest production we thought we’d take a look back at the last 9 months in the Studio and out on the Town. The was the Galway Film Fleadh Launch, Poker Night, Annecy Animation Festival, the Galway Film Fleadh, the Galway Arts Festival, Ladies Day of Galway Race Week and of course somewhere we managed to squeeze in 20 x 15 min episodes of animation.

Thanks to all the Ish team for their hard work. We couldn’t have done it without you.

Last evening we took some time to socialise outside the studio. It was the launch of the 22nd Galway Film Fleadh and we went along to enjoy some wine and samosas.

The highlights of the up coming programme include Toy Story 3, The Illusionist and of course Miss Remarkable and her Career.

Annecy and so much more…

Last week saw us pay a visit to the 2010 Annecy International Animation Festival. It was a world wind visit of 3 days jam packed with lots to do and get done, but it still managed to surprise us.

It all kicked off with an early morning flight, on to a bus, rush hour traffic, sweltering heat, collecting our accreditation and on to hotel check in before hitting the town for our first night.

Apart from the meetings, the animation discussions and the arguments about the storyline to Up, our main reason to be there was for the world premiere of Miss Remarkable and her Career. Our 30 min co-production short film was to be shown in the 4th programme of shorts. Our swedish co-producers and most of our crew that worked on the film were there to see it.

The short played very well with the French Audience, so well infact  that Miss Remarkable and her Career was a winner of the Fipresci Award, from the International Critics.

What the Judges had to say
“Remarkable!
We poor film critics not only have to be very articulate when praising or condemning a film, but we have also to be very creative and come up with witty, clever texts each week for the cinema loving audience.
So we can really relate to the heroine in the film we chose as our winner. And it’s with great pride we say: we all loved Miss Remarkable and her Career!”

Now on to the next festival. and thanks again to Donal, for collecting and representing the film at the awards ceremony.

From Desktop to the Internet

Here is a design thats being sitting on my desktop for quite sometime. The original drawing is by our good buddy Tom Caulfield, who is living it up over in Paris at the moment. I had great fun playing with the textures in Art Rage and Photoshop. I must take a break from series animation more often.

In Their Spare Time

It has recently come to light that our animators have a life outside of work. Always a good thing I suppose and to keep themselves amused in the spare time some have been working away on blogs and twitters alike. All are worth a look see and a follow.

Sophia has been working hard maintaining 2 blogs

Mark equally hard with his site

Donal is not much of a twitter-er but he does have his blog.

And Fergal’s double life.

We have been rather quiet on the blog of late, with one good reason, a tv project we have been working on since December 2009. But the time has come to pay homage to the small tight crew that have done all has been asked of them. Although you can not tell by their faces the crew pictured above are responsible for producing 12 mins of animation every single week. A great achievement deserving of some silverware (even if we found it lying around the studio).

So I would like to thank (back row, left to right) Donal, Me (although no need to thank myself), Lorraine, Don, John, Brian & Michael, (front row, left to right) Fergal, Sophia, Mark & Alice (not pictured).

Fergal’s Back

It’s been a couple great weeks here in A Man & Ink and to top it off there was the arrival back from college of Fergal, who worked with us on The Variety Show last year. He seems to be getting on well back in the animation industry, fitting in with the other animators.

It’s been quite a while since our last update and so much has happen since then, some we can tell you about and some is so top secret. But one of the biggest thing was a trip to Los Angeles for The Oscars.

The small feature film “The Secret of Kells” which both myself and Lorraine worked on was nominated for an oscar. Sadly we didn’t win but a great trip and day out in the sun was had by all participants.

It is absolutely chucking it down outside and as the rain pours I shall make an effort to make us all jealous. It’s a special post to welcome the wandering Lorraine who has returned from her sabbatical with plenty of photos and to show us all, the photo tour of India is planned for Tuesday, so to spread the jealousy out among us all, here are a very small selection of photos from 1 or 2 of the 12 countries she visited.
